The Beauty of Avoiding Less..
There are always things we want to avoid!
If it’s problematic we want to avoid it. And we all have problems!… Check your pulse if you don’t!
Choosing not to do something when it’s not a good time or place is not what I mean by avoiding.
Avoiding is when it’s a good time or place, or as good as any, to do ‘it’ and we avoid or choose not to.
What do we gain by avoiding? – shrinkage of ourselves and big expectations our future self is going to somehow be more capable to deal with it.
We know deep down it doesn’t work this way so this creates anxiety and more avoidance - a negative feedback cycle with increasing anxiety through our day.
What do we gain by avoiding less?
Turning towards our avoidance is not something our emotional brains like. The little child in us wants to avoid pain and seek pleasure.
However, turning towards the repulsion and leaning into it strengthens our emotional capacity and Biggifies us! (New word! 😉).
Our sense of Self and sense of Self in the world, (self-efficacy) grows when we lean into what we would avoid. Other people typically admire and like this and are more likely to lend us a hand if we need it.
It elevates our future selves and makes our future lives easier, reducing anxiety and creating a positive feedback cycle for our day.
